About Authors In the Field

The Authors In the Field Series is a monthly gathering that shines a spotlight on emerging voices in the coaching arena. At Hudson, we are committed to nurturing our curiosity and fostering dialogues with authors who enrich the coaching profession, providing invaluable resources for our community.

In this session, Hudson alum and coach Kelly Ross sat down with Mike Manoske to discuss his book, The New Job Success Guide and Journal—a practical, coach-friendly resource designed to help people not just land a role, but thrive in it. Mike shared what he learned as a recruiter and career coach: many new hires get a quick onboarding, then immediately face pressure to deliver without clarity, context, or support.

Together, they explored what makes the first year successful, including how to clarify and document expectations early, identify learning gaps quickly, and create a simple, repeatable plan for momentum. The conversation also dug into a common pain point: feeling overwhelmed by stakeholders. Mike offered a grounded approach for prioritizing relationships based on role-critical outcomes, so connection-building becomes strategic rather than exhausting. The Q&A surfaced themes coaches see often—confidence dips, “deer-in-the-headlights” moments, and imposter syndrome—plus concrete ways coaches can help clients regain traction.
