Managing has never been harder. Between shifting business priorities, team uncertainty, and the pressure to do more with less, today’s managers are being stretched thin — and most organizations still aren’t giving them the support they need to succeed.
In this webinar, Hudson Institute of Coaching CEO Michael Hudson sat down with Timmi Zalatoris (CHRO, Sprouts Farmers Market) and Leah Potkin (Principal Leadership Development Partner, HubSpot) to explore what great manager development looks like right now — and how coaching is at the center of it.
Three things we took away:
- Managers are overwhelmed — and that’s the starting point. Before you can develop managers, you have to acknowledge the complexity they’re navigating. Clarity on what’s expected of them is foundational.
- Coaching is a mindset, not a module. The most effective organizations aren’t rolling out coaching as a one-time program. They’re embedding it into daily workflows, culture, and real on-the-floor moments.
- You don’t need all the answers to lead well. A coaching approach gives managers the confidence and skills to guide their teams through uncertainty — even when (especially when) the path forward isn’t clear.
